Ever wonder why in a kriti the performer will repeat the line a number of times before preceding to the next line?
For example, Brinda repeats the first line, 'kaligiyunte gada galgunu,' three times before preceding. (The very first line- way to make a statement!)
Repeating a phrase three time in Indian rhythm c thinking gives a sense of completion to a certain thought. This can occur in any part of the piece whether it be a small section or even a mridarigam solo.
Many calculations (mentioned in the book as a kanakku) take place in Indian music. This kanakku of repeating three times is called a mora. A mora also has to have a gap sorting the phrases.
